Self Respect
Self respect has to do with accepting oneself. If you truly like who you are and appreciate who you are, then you have self respect.
Self esteem is not the same as self respect. Self esteem is more evaluative in the course. For example, a person may feel good about themselves or have high esteem because of a certain task they have accomplished or suffered. In contrast, self respect withholds judgment. With self respect, you love yourself for who you are and not for what you do or are going to become.
Self Respect Reactions
In life, you should have respect for yourself. Some people will always compare you to others and try to “crash your world”. It is important to stick up for your actions and let people know where you stand.
Some people are too passive and let others destroy their self respect. If someone constantly tries to take away your respect, it is a good idea to let them know clearly that you will not be treated that way. People that constantly erode your self respect should be avoided.
In a lot of cases, people can try to destroy self respect out of jealousy and other unkind feelings. As a person, you should know that people that try to treat you badly are probably having their own issues. A person that is whole would not want to erode your self respect.
Final Though on Self Respect
Nobody is going to respect you until you respect yourself. The path to self respect is to learn to love yourself by being true to your feelings. The path to acceptance of self comes through the path of connecting spiritually and following the heart.
