What Makes a Good Leader?
Many books have been written on the subject of what makes a good leader. Many people claim to have the answer. The answer is difficult because being a good leader is different for everyone. For example, some people get great results with efforts that vary wildly from someone else.
Fundamentals of a Good Leader
Fundamentally, a good leader is someone that inspires good will in the group. The great leader will first and foremost be able to get the right people on board with them. They will be intuitive and know what people are not working out and that need to be reassigned.
Once the right people are found, the great leader will gain their trust and respect. Respect and trust are the foundations that people must have to give their all to someone. Any breaches of trust can hurt a leader by leaps and bounds.
Once a leader is admired and respected, they can begin the task of leading. The great leader will have a vision of where the company is headed and know how to get there. The leader will convey the companies vision to their subordinates with enthusiasm.
The best leaders are persistent and dogmatic. They will hold onto a bone until there is no tomorrow. They will not give up and forge ahead with optimism. Their commitment and love to the project will inspire those around them to get the job done.
Lead by Example
You can talk all day about leadership, but the most important principle is to lead by example. If you fail to do your own part, nobody will listen to what you say or respect you. Most often, the leader chosen is the person that is the most committed to lead and show that in the example they set every day.
